Kamala Harris has led Donald Trump in a poll in Iowa, a state that Donald Trump easily won in 2016 and 2020.

The vice president has a three-point lead in the Midwest state, according to a Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll of 808 likely voters.

“The poll shows that women — especially those who are older or politically independent — are driving the late shift toward Harris,” the poll said.

The poll shows Ms. Harris leading Mr. Trump 47% to 44%.

It has a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points and follows another poll in Iowa in September that gave Trump a four-point lead, the newspaper reported.

To take Iowa would give the winner six Electoral College votes, 270 of which are needed to become president.

Both contenders for the US presidency have focused on key battleground states such as North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin as they try to advance in a tight race for the White House.

Early voting is already underway in the run-up to Tuesday’s elections.

During a speech in North Carolina, Trump told a crowd in Gastonia: “If we win this state, we’re going to win the whole game.”
