A group of armed robbers stormed Adabraka, a suburb of the country’s capital, Accra, on Saturday, November 2, 2024.

CCTV footage of the event

CCTV footage captured how a gang of armed robbers invaded a jewelry store in Adabraka, Accra and made off with bags of cash. The footage shows several men loading bags of cash into a parked sedan.

Shortly after the car starts moving, a 4×4 vehicle cuts in front of him. Suddenly, armed men wearing masks and carrying AK-47s and other weapons emerge from the 4×4 vehicle and attack the driver and a passenger in the sedan, seizing all the bags of cash from their vehicle.

In several online videos, the robbers can be seen firing a warning shot and throwing money into the air, probably to cover up their escape.

Police on the hunt

The Ghana police have launched a manhunt following the robbery. In a statement dated November 2, 2024, police confirmed that the incident involved a group of armed men targeting a jewelry store, injuring at least one person.

The police have promised to arrest the robbers.

“Police are on the hunt for a gang of armed robbers who attacked a jewelry store in Adabraka, Accra on Saturday, November 2, 2024, leaving one person injured,” the statement said. It concluded: “We want to assure the public that we will definitely catch them and bring them to justice.”

MP speaks

Korle Klottey’s Member of Parliament (MP), Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, reacted to the incident that occurred in her constituency.

The MP expressed concern over the rising number of armed robberies in the area, noting that this incident was the second in less than four months at the same location. Dr. Rawlings stated that she would discuss the matter with the relevant security authorities to implement measures to reduce these attacks.

“I, in turn, follow up with the Ministry of the Interior and National Security regarding what is happening here. We insure people in the community without ensuring their safety. I don’t think this is enough,” said Dr. Rawlings.
