Jurassic World: Chaos Theory EP Scott Kreamer showed me how Jurassic World Dominion inspired Season 2's breathtaking character reveal

When you throw out a character name like ‘The Broker’, every series that is part of the TV program 2024, or any series of shows will perk up some ears. But if you use that name to evoke a mystery in something like Jurassic World: Chaos Theoryit becomes an opportunity in a fan’s mind. With such a rich array of antagonists in the Jurassic Park Universethat imposing name could have belonged to anyone.

And sure enough, this season made my jaw drop when I revealed who this mysterious power figure was. What did that mean when I sat down Chaos theory EP Scott Kreamer, it was time to ask him to explain to me how Jurassic World Domination inspired this specific choice. And yes, the person we’re about to discuss is from that same movie, which only makes this season’s cliffhanger even more exciting.

Early Jurassic World Dominion showings carried over into Jurassic World: Chaos Theory’s big reveal

While discussing Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Season 2 Story DevelopmentI took some of the time to chat with Kreamer during the press day to talk about how the overarching story for the first two seasons came together. Set just a few months apart, these 20 episodes of Chaos theory are quite tightly woven together into the fabric of the Jura- saga.

It turns out that the origins of some of Chaos theory Season 2’s more exciting plot points came from one of the benefits of working on one Jurassic World project. With that in mind, here’s what Scott Kreamer previously told CinemaBlend Jurassic World Domination screening experience and how it helped:

When we broke down season one, we were definitely looking ahead… (it’s) when we got to see some early screenings of (Jurassic World) Dominion before it was released. And then we took on the events, and some of the characters from them. We definitely kept it all in mind. They weren’t written as one piece, but obviously we knew where we were going to end season one, and it was fun to keep the train moving into season two.

Jurassic World: Chaos Theory The end of season 1 saw Brooklynn (Kiersten Kelly) revealed alive and still fighting the good fight for dinosaur liberation. That search took her to some very interesting places in Season 2, especially when she finally tracks down “The Broker” in Dubai. It reveals to the world that this shadowy figure was actually Soyona Santos (Dichen Lachman). Jurassic World Dominationthe threads between this DreamWorks Animation midquel and the 2022 trilogy capper began to come together even more closely.

That was evident in my conversation with Scott Kreamer, as his mention of director Colin Trevorrow’s big send-off allowed me to ask what inspired him to include Soyona in the film. Chaos theory mix. Kreamer seized on that story, as he had alluded to earlier, and went on to describe it Dominions influence as follows:

I was halfway through answering the question when I realized we were in the non-spoilage section. So yeah, it was COVID times, we were wearing our masks and we were in a screening room at Universal. And Bethany Armstrong Johnson, our head writer, and I just got together after the screening, and it was like, ‘We have to get that character on the show.’ It was such an intriguing character, such a great performance. And luckily we had Colin’s Blessing, and when they reached out and Dichen agreed to do the Voice. She is such a great actress and a better person than she is an actress. It’s really exciting and I think it takes the whole thing to the next level.

Having spoken to Dichen Lachman in the past, I can definitely tell you that she is a fan of the Jurassic Park Universe. So when I heard Scott Kreamer call her a better person than a mean actor, the experience I had personally had talking to the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes actor. With that on the table, we could delve deeper into how Soyona Santos was expanded from her Jurassic World Domination appearance in the current big bad of Chaos theory.

How Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Dichen Lachmans Expanded Sonoya Santos

For everyone who saw it Jurassic World DominationSonoya Santos’ character may come across as just a smuggler who can always deliver at a price. But there’s a lot about the character that hasn’t been seen on screen yet. My conversation with Scott Kreamer reminded me of when I learned those facts for myself.

Speaking with Dichen Lachman in 2022 on behalf of Jurassic World Dominions home entertainment release, I learned how much of Soyona Santos that is Altered carbon veterinarian came up with in her own process. Here’s some of Sonoya’s backstory, as told to CinemaBlend in 2022:

I hadn’t had a chance to read the script at that point, but I started thinking about how can I really ground this character? So I wrote this extensive backstory about how she grew up in Siberia… and her mother ended up smuggling dinosaur bones, which is actually a thing. … She was extremely wealthy and had a boarding school education, but she came from this interesting place. … What I wrote, you could make a movie on its own.

Reading that back makes Soyona’s introduction in Season 2, Episode 5 – ‘Troubled Waters’ all the more exciting, as she references an excavation her mother was involved in during her travels! When I revealed Dichen Lachman’s morally gray character as “The Broker,” the fan in me had to smile, especially with such a juicy callback to deep knowledge. Decisions like that showed that this animated saga was impressively tied to the live-action adventures, without making too many similarities.

That’s a good time to return to my time with Scott Kreamer, as I was curious to see if his early entry into the big world Jurassic World trilogy finale would have given him the chance to help adapt Soyona’s cinematic presence. Since the specific Chaos theory Season 1 Notes that Colin Trevorrow shared about the Nublar Six’s path to maturity proved that the level of trust between series EPs could have left room for some changes here and there.

But as you’ll read from Scott Kreamer’s ongoing comments, that wasn’t a problem at all. Quote Jurassic World Dominions own development process, Scott Kreamer highlighted the following specifics when it came to the expansion of Soyona Santos Chaos theory Season 2:

Oh god, no. They were in post-production when we got involved. But you know, what was great is that this is the character that Colin created, (that) he and Dichen created, with his writing and her performance. So we felt very safe, we knew we had a handle on the character. And even some of our backstory that ended up in the show was based on meetings they had together when they were discussing backstory. So that was cool. But when we wanted to expand on it, whether it’s her painting, or anything else that we expanded on from the original, Colin and Dichen, and everyone else started working on it right away… it flowed very easily.

While there is still no word on whether or not Jurassic World: Chaos Theory is being renewed for season 3, and the reintroduction of Soyona Santos is a good step for the future of this series. Because the plot is meant to show events that happened months earlier Jurassic World Domination begins, any twists and turns that occur afterward may rely heavily on what’s said but not shown. That’s especially true for Dichen Lachman’s character, as there’s an entire event referenced in the 2022 film that we still haven’t seen come to life.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see if the dino-powered chaos returns to propel the story forward.
