Postal worker honored for saving man’s life on her route

STANFORD, KY (WKYT/Gray News) – A U.S. Postal Service courier is being called a hero for helping save a man’s life.

Postal worker Connie Durbin was recognized Friday with the Postmaster General Hero Award.

In July, Durbin was on her way to Lincoln County when she heard someone calling for help. She later discovered Kevin Stamper in a ditch with his lawn mower on top of him.

Stamper said no one heard his cry for help until Durbin suddenly appeared. He said her actions helped save his life.

“I lay there and I said, Lord, if You don’t send an angel my way soon, I don’t think I can hold out much longer. And I say she stopped within five minutes,” Stamper said.

Durbin added, “I didn’t expect anything. I didn’t. But maybe God put me there for a reason. Maybe I was up early that day for a reason.”

Stamper said he and his wife had returned early from vacation and their mail was still on hold that day, so it was notable that Durbin even stopped because there was no mail for them.
