Wicked Star Ryan Reid provides commentary on performances by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande

The star of Wicked’s stage production has praised his live-action film.

Ryan Reid, who plays Fiyero in the West End and Broadway musical phenomenon, spoke to Men’s Journal about the Hollywood adaptation starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

“They look fantastic and sound incredible,” says Reid. “Obviously their script will be slightly different, but these two incredible female characters were created and that’s why Wicked has lasted so long, because anyone can come in and put their stamp on it and make it their own can make.”

Current Fiyero actor in London’s West End production of Wicked, Reid replaced Alistair Brammer in February 2022.

Reid’s demanding schedule requires eight dazzling shows a week. It’s a tall order, and hard to compare, but he has nothing but admiration for his Hollywood peers.

“I think they’re so different and I think people who are on it, fans of the show, need to know that it’s a completely different medium… I think it’s great to have both because you can see, you know you can enjoy the story of Wicked, you get to see their new versions, which will be absolutely incredible, like the cast is amazing But once you enjoy that, you can also say, ‘oh great, let me see the go see the live version. ‘see that energy and feel that energy in the theaters what you can’t do on screen.
