Harold Fannin Jr. is a fun, talented and versatile tight end who expects to be used as a power slot in the NFL.

Fannin Jr. is having an incredible season from a production perspective. He lines up in multiple positions for Bowling Green’s offense: as the h-back, in the backfield, outside, in the slot, in a bunch and in stacked sets. Fannin Jr. possesses strong pass-catching skills in an NFL offense. He runs good routes against zone and off-man coverages. With good trunks, body control and playing power, he routinely gets open. He does a good job of attacking angles and leverage against defenders, providing cushioning/play from deep.

Fannin Jr. is a three-layer threat in the passing game and has an effective impact on the game as a speedy/short, intermediate and downfield receiver.

He has shown excellent hands when attacked. He plucks the ball out of the air with utmost confidence and plays well through contact at the catch point. Fannin Jr. has scored 171 goals twice during his career. It’s tough to take him down once the football is in his possession. He is strong after the catch and can force missed tackles in space with a defender.

As a blocker, Fannin Jr. effective in both the run and passing games. He cuts off access points to the ball carrier well by shielding defenders with his body. He has good and functional arm length to close out at the point of attack. Fannin Jr. blocks well against h-back alignment on split-flow concepts, in space as a lead blocker and climbing to pick off defenders at the edge.

That said, as a traditional in-line blocker for most teams, he won’t pass the test. Fannin Jr. doesn’t bring exceptional strength or size to the fight that you can rely on against traditional NFL defensive ends/edge defenders in the run game. He doesn’t generate enough power in man/down-block situations to overpower defenders and drive them off the ball.

Fannin Jr. is a talented pass catcher, but his effectiveness in beating physical press defenders is a work in progress. He needs to improve his use of hands in the contact window to counter physical punches and grabbing defenders. His release package is underwhelming and repetitive, leading to battles that quickly break away from this defensive style. Due to his size, he will be primarily viewed and used as a big/power slot tight end at the next level.

Overall, Harold Fannin Jr. projects. as a high-functioning passing tight end with alignment versatility. Creative, attacking players are best if you want to make the most of his skills. He will be able to generate favorable matchups based on his alignment fluidity. With the right offensive system and role, he can be a top-3 receiving option at the next level.
