Lego Horizon Adventures delivers a fun, family-friendly version of Horizon Zero Dawn

Lego Horizon Adventures delivers a fun, family-friendly version of Horizon Zero Dawn

PLAYSTATION fans always look forward to new installments in Sony’s signature video game series, but creating triple-A games is taking longer than ever.

Lego Horizon Adventures aims to bridge the gap between major releases and prove that you don’t need a huge new game from the popular franchises every year to have fun.

It reinterprets the story of Horizon Zero Dawn in the usual light-hearted style that Lego games are known for.

The game takes Aloy’s serious story and gives it a breakout, family-friendly makeover that will make kids and parents alike laugh.

It does make a few changes to the original story, but nothing that breaks the established Horizon canon.

Despite being a spin-off, it’s a faithful retelling of the original game, and even players who haven’t played the main series will easily get the gist of Aloy’s 31st century adventure.

The battle system is simplified compared to Horizon’s main entries, but retains most elements of the original.

Once again you fight dinosaur-like machines with your bow, exploiting weaknesses and elemental effects.

Aloy’s companions from the original game are also playable, and they come with their own weapons and lend themselves to different play styles.

Horizon Adventures trades the open world of Zero Dawn for a level-based structure, with each level introducing new enemies and bosses.

Like the main games, you can grab loot and climb Tallnecks, and you even get some side activities to explore, like optional predator hunting.

It’s a Lego game, of course, so you’re encouraged to smash everything in sight to collect Lego studs, which you can use to unlock cosmetic items.

Horizon Adventures is also great to play with a friend as it offers both online and co-op multiplayer.

Unlike other Lego games, you cannot switch between your playable characters at any time, but only at the start of each level.

And since you can’t replay individual story missions, you’ll have to start a new playthrough if you want to see how a level plays out with a different character.

Horizon Adventures regularly looks beautiful in 4K PS5even in 60fps performance mode.

All in all, the game is a great way to relive one PlayStation‘s most popular series, or to introduce it to new fans with the witty style of a Lego game.

As a spin-off title, Lego Horizon Adventures will also be available on Nintendo Switch and PC when it launches tomorrow, November 14, 2024.
