¡Atención Austin! Prepare your taste buds for a journey to the heart of Spain. San Ginés, the legendary Madrid institution known for its world-class chocolate and pastries, opens its doors at 2072 South Lamar Blvd. in the heart of our city this Friday.

Croquetas, paella and more: Taste Spain in Austin

Visitors can start their visit with some traditional starters. San Ginés serves fried, breaded rolls with filling, also called croquetas. The distinguishing feature of these snacks is what they contain: creamy bechamel, proscuitto and cheese.

For the main course, guests can try a traditional recipe from the Mediterranean: paella. What better way to accompany the meal than with a beer? The restaurant serves both beer and craft cocktails.

A chocolatey churro extravaganza for the sweet tooth

To try the famous San Ginés chocolate, you don’t need a golden ticket. Now that the weather is (finally) getting cooler, head over to the new Austin location for a hot cup of cocoa with homemade crispy churros. Dip options include nutella or dulce de leche. San Ginés will also serve various pastries.

Be one of the first customers and receive some nice freebies

San Ginés will have a soft launch on Friday from 12pm to 10pm. The first 100 customers at South Lamar’s opening will receive free churros and chocolate.

Their regular hours are Monday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

From Madrid to the world: San Ginés has been making waves since 1894

Chism about chocolate and churros is not something new. The chocolatería first opened in Madrid in 1894. Thanks to history, it has become a cultural monument visited by locals and famous artists in the city.

In 2023, San Ginés opened its first location in the United States. The restaurant has updated its menu to cater to its Miami Beach customers. The prospects for San Ginés are growing with the addition of the Austin location, as the Madrid classic looks to entice a new generation of American fans.
