Tribal Pride Day celebrated at DNLU’s CSTIS

The Center for Studies in Tribal and Indigenous Communities (CSTIC) of Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU) organized a grand event on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas (Tribal Pride Day) on Friday to commemorate the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

The event was held under the esteemed leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha, Vice Chancellor of DNLU, and was coordinated by Dr. Jalaj Goantiya and Dr. Amit Kumar Mishra, faculty advisors of CSTIC, along with the student organizing body. committee included. Rishabh Bharti, Chairman, and Mrs. Mayuri Tumdam and Piyush More, Co-Chairmen.

The guests of honor were eminent personalities from various fields including Prakash Singh Uikey, retired Judge, National Scheduled Tribe Commission, New Delhi, Prof. (Dr.) Bir Pal Singh, President, Center for Tribal Studies and Research, National Law Institute University, Bhopal , dr. Harishankar Markam, Head of Department, NSCB Medical College, Jabalpur, Subhash Badole, Social Worker, Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram

Subhash Badole delivered an insightful speech titled “An Introduction to the Diversity of Tribal Communities in India” in which he highlighted the invaluable contributions of tribal communities to the Indian freedom struggle and their enduring presence in mythological stories. Dr. Harishankar Markam elaborated on the crucial role of Bhagwan Birsa Munda in resisting British colonial rule and his sacrifices for the upliftment of tribal communities.

Prof. (Dr.) Bir Pal Singh shared fascinating anecdotes that highlight the tribes’ unique knowledge of environmental conservation and their rich cultural heritage. Prakash Singh Uikey emphasized the importance of legal reforms to preserve customary law and protect tribal identity. He also emphasized the need for a shift in societal and tribal mindsets to promote inclusivity and harmony.
