Update on the British rider whose horrific crash raised a red flag during Macau GP qualifying

Qualifying for the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix was red flagged due to a worrying crash.

English rider Matt Stevenson was involved in the terrifying incident at the police corner early on Saturday morning.

With 18 minutes of the session remaining, the red flags came out.

The incident was resolved allowing qualifying to resume, but there were concerns over Stevenson’s condition.

But his team Dafabet Racing Kawasaki later provided an encouraging update.

“Matt was involved in an incident this morning during Q1, but as you can see and ‘OK’,” they posted next to the photo at the top of this page.

“A little bit of a back injury, but no surgery required. GWS.”

Stevenson wrote: “Ghost footage of my departure… shows how much I remember, I didn’t think it was at half that speed!

“I’m very lucky with the fairly minor injuries I have after seeing that.

‘I’m sorry I scared everyone! It looks terrible!

“I’ve driven past similar scenes and your heart sinks!”

The weather had a major impact on the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix this week.

The first two training sessions were canceled due to the wet weather. Then the crashes during a four-wheel session caused more delays for the bikes.
