Newcastle Falcons: Steve Diamond is “confident” in finding new investment

There was a season’s best crowd of 6,187 under the lights at Kingston Park as Newcastle made a major statement.

Add in the elements and it delivered a very northeastern experience, and it’s that identity that Diamond believes could be a key attraction.

“Newcastle has the uniqueness of its personality in sports,” he said.

“I went to St James’ Park recently for the football and the atmosphere in the city is great. It’s a real sporting city.

“We don’t want the kind of investor who is just there for ego, we want someone who is going to build things in the community – an academy, a community department, a foundation and fly the flag for the North East.

“The identity can be a draw, but it’s about how we sell the club and where we can take the club.

“We will not be self-sufficient, we will need investment, but ultimately the person or organization that comes in will see that we know what we are doing. That is very important for us and for them.”
